How to decide which wig to buy

different types of human hair wigs

It can be very confusing deciding which luscious  wig to buy. Here’s a guide to Hair Necessity wigs that should help you make the right choice. If you’re still not sure please call us or email and we’ll help you make that all important decision. Don’t worry, if it’s not quite right send it back and try another style, or get a no quibble refund.

First things first

All wigs are super comfortable, made using the highest quality hair, can be coloured and will last a long time with proper care. Any of the wigs styles will work in most situations it’s just that some wigs are better for certain requirements:

Best for light colours

Good news all wigs look amazing in light colours. However, mono and lace wigs look particularly good in the light blondes.

Best for dark colours

As each hair is individually hand knotted onto a base, on very close inspection the tiny knots on dark hair are visible.

If perfection is what you’re looking for, a silk top wig could be the answer. The hair is injected through the silk and knotted underneath, which means that no knots are visible and it doesn’t matter if you have your own growing hair!

Best for styling off face

Lace moulds perfectly to the shape of the head and lays very flat because the material clings to the scalp. This creates a  look that is absolutely flawless, as the lace becomes part of your scalp and hair will appear to be growing straight out of it.

Best if you have your own hair

The hairs on mono and lace wig bases are knotted onto transparent materials, which means you can see your own scalp underneath. If you have lots of your own growing hair on the crown it won’t have the same effect. If you have dark hair and are wearing a light coloured mono or lace wig you would need to wear a flesh coloured wig cap under your wig. Lots of celebrities wear their wigs this way. However, as the crown is not transparent on silk wigs it doesn’t matter what’s going on with your hair underneath and this is possibly your easiest option.

Most durable

Silk wigs contain a higher density of hair so will last longer than mono or silk. Lace is the most delicate option of the three choices, however with proper care it will still last a long time.

Easiest to wear

All wigs are easy to wear however, if you are wearing lace because you want to tie your hair back off your face then it’s essential that the lace lays completely flat. The design of these wigs means that on most women it will however when pulling the hair back off your face, to style, you will need to ensure that the harlines stay completely flat so there’s a little extra work to do. Don’t worry it’s not very complicated, just a bit of sock glue or strong hold hair spray or tape designed for lace will work perfectly.

Easiest to dye

All wigs can be coloured. It’s best to darken rather than lighten the hair. If you’d like to colour the whole wig from the root you need to be particularly careful with the silk base wigs as you can’t remove any accidental colour run out of the silk.  The silk base is also very difficult to protect during the colouring process.

Highest density

Getting the hair density right is one of the most important factors in making a wig look natural. Most wigs have far too much har and as Hair Necessity wigs are designed for hair loss they are created to look discrete and very natural. The silk wig in this collection has a slightly higher density so if thickness is also what you are looking for this is a great option. Lace has the lowest density of hair.

Please note none of the Hair Necessity stock  wigs are designed for shorter styles. Wigs that are wefted at the back are best for short styles.
